Introduction:

This training course is aimed at small to medium sized businesses who need to have a member of their staff trained in the setting up and running of the company’s website. No particular web design training is required but a reasonable degree of computer literacy would be necessary.

The course is based on the use of the WordPress Content Management System and begins with installing the system onto a live webserver**. Attention is then focused on configuring this by selecting and adapting appropriate theme files and plugins, along with adding pages and uploading images.

A significant portion of the course is dedicated to preparing and arranging content for the site such as text and images. Students will use an image manipulation program to prepare images for the web with subjects such as image cropping, file types & sizes and stock photography covered.

Search engine placement is becoming increasingly important so the course covers up to date S.E.O. techniques including the installation of an S.E.O. plugin into wordpress and registering the website with Google.

A number of workshops occur during the course allowing plenty of time to practice and the attendees will each build a live demonstration website during the course.**

• Connecting to the server and uploading to a website
• WordPress documentation and installation
• Basic operation of the C.M.S. & uploading simple content
• Themes, plugins, configuration and customization
• Design / Style / Image / Basic marketing
• Getting Images and Image Preparation for the site
• Writing and arranging content / Making sure users dont get lost or frustrated.
• Getting ranked in Google – Basic S.E.O. and installation of an S.E.O. plugin
• Site testing / Audience and browser awareness
• Introduction to HTML and CSS
